Minutes September 6, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Vice President Kevin Lawlor.  Kevin had everyone introduce
themselves as there were several new people present.

Lois continued with the meeting agenda.  She announced that memberships and dues were being taken.  The
rates are $20 for personal membership, $35 for a family and $50 for a business.  She also announced that
changes were being made to the Chicken Stew book.  The new name is “That Day” and area public relations
expert Scott Grove is working with us to produce a new version of the book to be used as a fundraiser.  Lois
announced that there are currently two business sponsors at $100 each and that we need at least two more to
make the book a go.  Anyone who knows of a business who might be willing to sponsor the book’s publication is
asked to contact Lois as soon as possible.

The candidates’ forum will be held on Wednesday October 4th at 7pm.  It is being co-sponsored by Central MD
PFLAG and the FCC GLBT club.  A letter from PFLAG will be sent out following the Sept. 12th primary election.
Anyone who personally knows a candidate is asked to contact that person with a verbal invitation to the event.
The formal PFLAG invitation will be mailed.  Lois will prepare a publicity flyer and email it to everyone by the end
of the week.  If you have questions you would like to be asked to the candidates please submit them to Lois by
October 1st.

Book Club meets on Sept. 20th at the Trust Conference Room of the C. Burr Artz library.  Meeting time is 7pm.
This month’s selection is “Losing Matthew Shepherd.”  More information on the book club can be found on the
website.

Discussion followed on how PFLAG can assist local youth groups.  It was suggested that we put mentions in local
papers, post flyers and make personal invitations to meetings.  The youth are sponsoring a picnic at Baker Park
on October 21st from 11am-1pm.  The FCC GLBT club will assist with the food for this event.  Movie night will be
on November 10th.  We will plan an outing to see “Running with Scissors.”

Grace Borell spoke about a new movement in the churches called the Phoenix Affirmations.  It is a grassroots
movement for acceptance of gays and lesbians in mainstream churches.  Information will be posted soon on the
website.

The steering committee planning retreat will be held at Lois’s house on Thursday November 30th from 6-10pm.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30pm and social time followed.
